Stephen King’s novels have brought us some incredibly powerful, and simply terrifying creatures and monsters. However, none of them are possibly as well know, as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from his landmark novel, It.
This amorphous being, able to change shape at will, has been haunting the small town of Derry, Maine for centuries, if not millenia. As we saw not only in the television miniseries from the early 90s, but the pair of blockbuster films.
But despite the character’s relative popularity, and its iconic status in pop culture, general audiences don’t really know too much about the child-chomping clown.
Chalk it up to having not read the book, or any of the connected stories, or just the movies not taking time to explain much about it to maintain a level of mystery. Either way, you, dear viewer, may find yourself not really knowing how powerful this monstrous clown is.
Which is probably why you are here! We are going to take a look at what we know of the character’s origins, along with its place in the larger Stephen King universe, and what kind of terrifying abilities it can unleash. Let’s dive right in, and see if we really all do float down here...
