This was revealed by Deputy Commander of the Philippine Navy, Rear Admiral Robert Empedrad in an interview shortly after the launch of the country's first missile fighter, BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in southeastern South Korea in the city of Ulsan on Thursday .
"The ship will be sent to the Philippines in July (after repairs in June)," he added.
BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) is the former "Pohang" Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) - the Chungju class corvette (PCC-762) which was assigned to ROKN in 1987 and served until 2016.
"The ship will sail and arrive in the country in July 2019," said PN spokesman Captain Jonathan Zata.
The ship was named Conrado Yap to uphold the legacy of a proud Philippine military leader who served in the Korean War as part of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea.
Yap was the captain of the Philippine Army and was considered the most decorated Filipino soldier during the Korean War.
He posthumously received the Philippine Valor Medal, the highest military honor in the country, and the US Separate Service Cross, for the courage to act as part of the Tank Company, 10th Battalion Combat Team (10th BCT), Philippine Army.
"The sailing crew departed April 2019 and (now) are undergoing the necessary 13-week operational and war training facilitated by the Reserve Ship Maintenance Squadron (RSMS) in Jinhae, Gyeongsang-namdo, South Korea. The crew members are divided into five groups based on skills and specialization, "Zata added.
The length of the ship is 88.3 meters, with a beam of 10 meters and a draft of 2.9 meters while the displacement is at 1,216 tons of full cargo.
This ship is for crew consisting of 118 personnel and can maintain an operational presence for 20 days.
The Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion configuration of a diesel engine Motor Transport Unit (MTU) and LM2500 gas turbine with a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) allows the ship to move to a maximum speed of 25 knots to a distance of 4,000 nautical miles.
"This ship will greatly enhance our fleet's Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) capabilities, Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities," Zata added.
The ship is armed with two main weapons, 76mm Oto Melara, 30mm automatic cannon, anti-submarine torpedo, and various sensors, including sonar and radar.
