Military marks 20 years since gay ban lifted On 12 January 2000, the military lifted its ban on gay, lesbian and bisexual personnel serving after a landmark court case.

The army used the opportunity to celebrate the progress that has been made.

Twenty years ago gay people were dishonourably discharged and sometimes stripped of medals.
