What are the most important criteria to check if a bank is safe?
To measure if a bank is safe you should verify if a bank is well-capitalized.
The most important ratio is the Tier-One Capital Ratio.
The Tier-One capital Ratio is the bank’s own capital. It should be at least 10%.
For my clients, I work with Swiss banks offering a Tier-One Capital Ratio of at least 20%.
Swiss banks are the safest banks in the world.
Besides the bank, you should verify the jurisdiction. Political and economic stability is crucial.
You will have more peace of mind if your bank is located in a jurisdiction without Bail-In Legislation.
Bail-In Legislation was adopted with the banks with the financial crisis Cyprus. The client’s money has been converted into shares of the bank in difficulties.
All over Europe, the Bal-In legislation is already in place since 2017. Switzerland and Liechtenstein have no Bail-In legislation. That’s a very important factor to measure the safety of your money.
