Long Island and Metro New York fishing reports at

Bluefish are now solidly entrenched along the length of the South Shore and East End, including all of the inlets and bays. The first reports of bluefish action in the Sound came from the Rocky Point area on the weekend. Porgies remain the best bet for sinker bouncers in Peconic Bay and very good fishing has also developed in many parts of the Sound. After a slow week on the fluke front, the flatties rebounded nicely on the weekend in Montauk, while quality not quantity was the rule in the waters around Shelter Island.

Good numbers of big stripers to 50 pounds are being trolled on Mojos and bunker spoons, and also caught on live bunker along the South Shore, primarily from Fire Island Inlet west to Rockaway Inlet. Some big bass also falling to live and chunked bunker, and Mojos in the western Sound. More weakfish than we’ve seen in a number of years continue to please anglers, especially in Great South Bay, and to a lesser degree in other areas. Plenty of big sea bass finding their way into reports now, but sadly our season does not open until June 23 for reasons no one can fully understand, given the exceptionally healthy status of the fishery.

For the offshore set, bluefin tuna are finding their way into reports and there are no less than six shark tourneys on tap for June.
