Ice sculpture artists compete in China's annual ice festival

Ice sculpture artists compete in China's annual ice festival Artists from around the world flocked to one of China's coldest cities to compete in the annual ice sculpting competition, using blocks of ice from the nearby Songhua river.

The contest in Harbin in the Heilongjiang province, which runs for two and a half days, kicked off on Monday with 60 contestants from 30 teams from countries including USA, Russia, Korea, Mongolia, Canada and India.

"For more than 20 years I've been dreaming of coming to this place and competing in this competition," Roger Wing, an ice sculpture artist from the U.S. said.

"This year is a dream come true. The weather is cold but perfect for ice carving."

The competition is part of Harbin's 36th annual International Ice and Snow Sculpture festival that features other events such as winter swimming, the grand ice world and the snow wedding.
