Why Meghalaya and North East is opposed to Citizenship Amendment Bill?

The North-Eastern states including Shillong is witnessing large scale protests after the Union Government approved the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Parliament. The contentious CAB intends to provide citizenship to persecuted non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan in India. The Bill is being vehemently opposed in North-Eastern states as there are fears that this Bill would attract more illegal immigrants into the North East.
