OK maybe not required but a good idea lol. A ton of parents ask me about Jakes gear, and I love answering them, but I just though it was time to do a video to help out people who maybe having a hard time figuring out what they may need for their kids. I know a video like this would have helped me a few years back. I have linked most of the gear Jake typically wears below.
Just to be perfectly clear we are not sponsored by any of the products Jake wears, but do receive discounts on Leatt and fiveten because of my job and www.expertvoice.com
Jakes gear
Helmet Bell full 9 Carbon adult size small -- Adult S and XS typically fit 8-9 year olds pretty well. Also pro tip, those sizes dont sell well, so you can get some really good deals on Amazon. Jakes helmet retails for $400 and I paid around $150-ish, and its work every penny.
Leatt Chest and neck pro --
Leatt Knee pads
Tasco gloves -- Jake is 9 and wears an adult XS, they make youth models, but the adult ones come in better patterns. Pick your favorite youtuber, most of them have discount codes to use on Tasco (Daily MTB Rider's is MTBDAILY). We don't have one of our own.
Smith goggles -- MTB Squad
Five ten shoes
Final thoughts
So theres a strange stigma in mountain biking about wearing more protective equipment; we haven't been in the sport that long, but I have experienced some negative reactions about how much gear we wear, which is odd to me that my gear would bother anyone else. When I've talked to people who've been in the sport for a while I hear things like "Im not that hard core" or "I probably should wear gear like that" or people just being flat out rude. Now with modern bikes allowing your more average rider to get into some crazy stuff, I just cant understand those answers like this. Leave a comment and let us know what you typically wear when ripping.
