Prime Time With Ravish Kumar, Dec 10, 2019 | Why Is India's North-East Opposed To Citizenship Bill? Across the north-eastern states, protests were held by various groups and student organisations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill passed in Lok Sabha. Despite Home Minister Amit Shah's assurance that appropriate exceptions have been made to ensure that the regional identity of the north-eastern states is protected, protests were witnessed in several districts of Assam and Tripura. Mr Shah had also said that Manipur will be brought under the ambit of the ILP (Inner Line Permit) system.
