Prime Time With Ravish, Dec 05, 2019 | Why Many In Assam Are Opposed To Citizenship Amendment Bill

A special report on Prime Time over the protests held in Assam against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill cleared by the Union Cabinet. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB, seeks to make it easier for non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to become citizens of India. While some organisations are protesting against the religious bias in the bill, others are opposed to granting citizenship to refugees. "Even though the government says that the bill will not dilute ILP, due to this bill refugees will get the rights to land ownership and they will start taking our lands on lease", says Akhil Gogoi, leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), an organisation that has been protesting against the bill.
