The Lebanese actress, Pamela El Kik, perfectly describes the major problems we face in Lebanon. Religion, politics, money, and one's bloodline have been defining factors for success or failure in our country. Religion didn't bring us closer, it split us apart. How can we feel okay with our country teaching us to love one another based on religion? Politics has become involved with everything nowadays. Though this may be okay, since our politicians were never for the people, it created such a bad and counterproductive system. It is very saddening how we learned to accept such a terrible system and lived through it all these years.
Education also revolves around politics. We allowed the schools to continue to teach the younger generations this failing system. Even at home, parents teach their children what they know. They are a big influence and it is our job to help them.
Now, our real problem is trying to undo years of adaptation and acceptance. It will take a lot perseverance to get through this, but we are closer than we have ever been. We can finally say that we are united regardless of religion.
