If you are familiar with business, you may have seen this graph before. This is the product cycle graph. This graph is popular because it has been proven to be true time and time again, and it is true for your content career.
The first step: Introduction
You have to start posting! I don’t care if its not perfect, I don’t care if the quality isn’t great. You can think of a million different reasons not to post, but the longer you put yourself in this cycle, the more likely you will never get out. Once you have put out content, you need to advertise it to your friends and family. This is going to be your first 5-10 viewers or your first 100 subscribers. You need them to act as the first layer cutting through all of the noise that is youtube and twitch. Your first month or so should be dedicated to building your story on that platform. If you don’t know what your story is, its simple: What have you done?
What are you currently doing?
What would you like to accomplish?
That is your story.
Lay down the foundation of your channel so that you have something to build on every time you go live or post. You also need to remember that this is not about numbers, views, or money. It does not matter if they get 0 views. You need to go through this if you want to build a story that people want to follow. You can not connect the dots forward when it comes to content, they only connect backwards. You just need to do everything in your power to control that luck so that when people do find your page one day or 6 years from now, they follow. Ultimately, though, you are going to be stuck in this introduction period until you have figured out how to tell your story so that people want to listen. You enter the next step when you have hit about 1-5k followers.
