China issues call to Macau to punish 'activities that endanger national security' At a forum to mark 20 years since the implementation of the Macau basic law, China’s top legislator Li Zhanshu called on Macau to strengthen its awareness of unexpected situations and to punish any activities that may endanger national security. He emphasised that the central government’s right to govern in Hong Kong and Macau must continue to be upheld, even while ensuring a high degree of autonomy.
