INTRODUCTION OF THE CHAPTER CARTESIAN SYSTEM OF RECTANGULAR CO-ORDINATES:

Co-ordinate Geometry is that branch of Mathematics which deal with the study of geometry of algebra. Rena Descrates, a french Mathematician, around 1637 realised that a straight line or a curve in a plane can be represented by an algebraic equations. As a result, a new branch of Mathematics called Co-ordinate Geometry cam in to existence.
In the study of Co-ordinate geometry, a point in a plane is represented by an ordered pair of real numbers called Co-ordinates of the point.
A Cartesian coordinate system in two dimensions (also called a rectangular coordinate system or an orthogonal coordinate system) is defined by an ordered pair of perpendicular lines (axes), a single unit of length for both axes, and an orientation for each axis.
