We've already discussed and analyzed the highly anticipated matchup, between Lamelo Ball and RJ Hampton, during the next star's faceoff between Melo's Illawarra Hawks and RJ's New Zealand Breakers. Both players had comparable performances individually, though over here on this channel we don't scoff at winning, therefore we came to the conclusion that RJ got the better of the matchup, as his new Zealand breakers won the game by 31 points. That video is among my recent uploads easy to find on the channel home page if you missed that.
But it'd also I'd be much appreciated if you guys could go follow me over on Instagram, remember if you like all my photos i'll return the favor and like yours back. And lastly go check out the new video on the second channel, like and subscribe over there where we talk about one of football's hottest young goalscorers. Links can be easily found down bellow in the description.
Now since arriving in the NBL and throughout his career dating all the way back to Chino Hills, Lamelo has been called the 'ankle bully' a nickname given to him for his insane collection of nasty crossovers and ankle breakers. But as an entertaining, as it is to watch Melo drop his defender twice in one possession, it seems as if ankle breakers are boring to Melo now. Because while you saw RJ's fierce block and Melo's emphatic putback all over your feeds and timeline, what you probably missed was Lamelo breaking not the ankles, elbows, knees or back of his opponent. But his skull, seriously though. Melo's out here in New Zealand breaking skulls. During the first quarter, when both going up for the block Melo accidentally elbowed Breakers forward Rob Loe, leaving him dazed on the ground and in serious discomfort. While Loe was able to walk out the court, he was immediately taken to hospital. Where breakers doctors confirmed shortly after, that Loe had fractured his skull during Thursday's game, and that he would remain in hospital over the weekend.
This injury comes at a tough time for, as Loe had been praised for his pre-season form, and was poised for a breakout season, following his solid performances on the Breakers' tour of the United States against NBA competition. Against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, Loe had 12 points and 4 rebounds. He one-upped himself against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Leading the team in scoring with 19 points along with 5 rebounds.
Loe was well on pace to be a key player for the Breakers this season, coming off an NZNBL championship last year. And averaging 11.5 points and 5 rebounds the first two games of this NBL season.
It's unclear how long Loe will be sidelined for, which is a real shame considering his hot start to the season and the fact this injury was a freak occurrence. He'd started the game off well too, with 2 points and an assist within the first 4 minutes of the game.
However, this incident was always gonna be overshadowed by the marquee matchup, who played in front of a record Breakers crowd of 8338 fans. I just came across the story and figured it'd be interesting to shed light on it and show love and support to Rob Loe. Who is among the best players in his position in the NBL for sure.
Obviously, we're not blaming Lamelo for the injury, that would be silly to even suggest it was clearly accidental. But I just saw that this story hadn't been covered anywhere else besides local news outlets.
