Recently, rumours started flying about the confirmation of a Joker sequel, that all started with a wild rumour about Todd Phillips approaching Warner Brothers with an idea.
The story went that Phillips, right off of the incredible Joker opening weekend, marched right into WB exec Toby Emmerich’s office and pitched him not only a sequel to Joker, but also a giant slate of other DC characters' origin stories as well. Initial reports said that he left the meeting with Joker Two and another mysterious origin story under his belt.
Well, unfortunately, it turns out that none of that is true. Deadline reported that the whole story had been faked, and that, while it’s definitely a possibility that we’ll be seeing a Joker sequel in the future, nothing has been confirmed… yet. A second movie would definitely make financial sense for everyone involved, especially Phillips, who made around one hundred million for Joker, after he wisely gave up his initial salary for a cut of the final profits. Seeing as how it is the fourth movie to make a billion at the box office for DC on a budget of only sixty million, we can see why both he and the studio would be ready to come back for more!
