Shell Recharge EV Charging: First US DCFC Session in a Bolt EV

Shell Recharge EV Charging: First US DCFC Session in a Bolt EV When EV charging and energy solutions company Greenlots became a subsidiary of Shell New Energies earlier this year, many of us wondered what it would mean for electric vehicle drivers in North America. Would a new network spring up in Shell gas stations across the country?

Well, not much has happened publicly over the rest of the year, but we finally have a tangible result of the partnership: the first U.S. Shell Recharge location opening earlier this week in Boston, MA. The two Tritium stations installed at Logan International Airport are only 50 kW, and the location is perhaps curious, but any opportunity to check out new DC fast charging is welcome, especially when it's right in our back yard.

I traveled the short distance from the city's northern suburbs to have our 2017 Chevy Bolt EV run the rule over both new units, the location, and ponder what the future of EV charging will look like, both for the nascent Shell Recharge brand and the general concept of adding electrons at a gas station.

For a direct North American comparison, you can also watch what Petro-Canada is doing with an extensive EV charging corridor north of the border:

On another note, if you have any questions about the Chevy Bolt EV, please don't hesitate to drop me a line at plugandplayEV@gmail.com. Always happy to answer questions from prospective owners or anyone interested in the car!
