China says it will take steps to 'improve' selection process for Hong Kong's chief executive

Ina rare 80-minute news conference after the Chinese Communist Party's fourth plenum,
China said it will take steps to "improve" the selection process for Hong Kong's chief executive.
Beijing is also set to amend the city's legal system to better "safeguard national security".
The comments come as anti-government protests in Hong Kong continue for a fifth month, and China has also made clear that it will not tolerate any challenges to "one country, two systems".
