Psychologist K. Anders Ericsson, in his book "Peak", explains 4 distinct points that separate purposeful practice from naive practice. Unfortunately, this is still a step under deliberate practice, but the difference between how effective naive practice is compared to purposeful practice is much more significant than the step from purposeful to deliberate.
