India cricket team captain Virat Kohli said he would pick the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant if he were to select cricketers for a kabaddi team. Kohli attended the opening match of the Mumbai leg of Pro Kabaddi 2019 on Saturday in Worli.
Virat Kohli, replying to a question on India cricketers for a kabaddi team, chose MS Dhoni without any hesitation, saying kabaddi players need a lot of strength and athleticism. Kohli added that he would not be picking himself in the kabaddi team. The India cricket captain named MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul.
"It requires a lot of strength and athleticism. So I would say, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav. Umesh is really strong. Rishabh Pant as well. I would say Bumrah because he can really work on a toe-touch. One more... I am not even going to include myself because these guys are stronger and more athletic. The last one would be KL Rahul. That's my seven," Virat Kohli told Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli named Rahul Chaudhri as his favourite kabaddi player and said the comaradrie between Chaudhri and Ajay Thakur for Team India and Tamil Thalaivas reminds him of himself and MS Dhoni.
Rahul Chaudhri has already begun Pro Kabaddi Season 7 on a high for his new team, Tamil Thalaivas. The India international played a key role in their season-opening win over his former side, Telugu Titans on July 21.
"Rahul Chaudhari and Ajay Thakur. They have a great camaraderie. So I think those two would be a direct copy of me and Mahi [Dhoni]," Kohli added.
"I have always been impressed with Rahul Chaudhari the most. I think he's got the personality and the game and the belief to be a top player. He has shown consistency over the years. Rahul is my favourite."
Meanwhile, Kohli, who interacted with the crowd ahead of U Mumba's home game vs Puneri Paltan on Saturday, heaped rich praise on India kabaddi players for helping the sport get recognition worldwide.
"seeing how players from all over the globe come to India to be a part of the PKL shows that the level of the sport has been escalated exponentially. The reason kabaddi has become a world recognised sport is due to the fitness and determination of Indian kabaddi players," Virat Kohli added.
Virat Kohli will be heading to Florida for the T20I series against West Indies. The Indian cricket team will play a 3-match T20I series, 3-match ODI series and 2 Tests against West Indies from August 3.
