For some of those reasons cats are being returned, because people were not prepared. Once for example a potential adopter asked "what? She will be roaming around the house while I am asleep?"...Errmmm, yes! Many young cats are also returned because they knocked down expensive china, or lap tops etc, and generally because the owners had not imagined things we take for granted. A woman I know kicked her cat out because she got into a bird nest and killed the chicks that she had been watching grow for some weeks. She literally hated the cat after that, but this is the feline nature, and you can't blame an animal for being an animal. Anyway, I hope this helps a bit.
