The Airbus A321 jet was en route to Simferopol from Moscow with 234 people aboard when it made an emergency landing in a cornfield shortly after take-off.
According to Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, the preliminary cause of the incident is engine malfunction caused by at least one bird being ingested by one of the engine turbines.
Russia’s Ministry of Health said that 23 people were injured in the rough landing. The exact circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
