"DEPOT (wherein resides the UNDEAD of Franz Kamin)": I've written about my relationship with Franz Kamin elsewhere. Parts of this text are read as part of this movie. To quote from its beginning: "I 1st encountered the work of Franz Kamin on Nov. 15, 1974 at the 11th Annual Avant-Garde Festival at Shea Stadium in New York City. I was 21 yrs old. On the floor outside the entrance to a temporary room apparently built for the occasion was a pile of 8&1/2X11" papers headed: "A RITUAL EMBEDDING OF THE SPIDERS RISK into non-HAUSDORF M-SPACE". This was Franz's." I didn't meet him in person until 1977 or 1978. We became friends & stayed friends all the way to his death in 2010. Franz had also been friends with James Mansback "Sarmad" Brody for an even longer time. They both died in the same car crash. Franz & Sarmad were both composers, one might say 'avant-garde classical' composers although the terminology is arguable. Sarmad had been in a big band that Neil Feather & I had founded called, loosely, the "Official" Project. Sarmad was also a loyal & energetic organizer of Franz Kamin events. I performed in at least 5 of Franz's pieces. They were always very special to me. I'm particulary fond of his "Unknowing Games at the Hut". I love his books, I love his records. His work was always challenging, original, & meticulous & had an interabilities side to it that I feel attuned to. When I learned of Kamin's & Brody's deaths in 2010 it seemed only right that I should memorialize him with a movie because I already had relevant footage & other objects of potential usefullness. I spent 7 somewhat grueling months traveling to places central in Franz's life & interviewing people & collecting any relevant scraps I could locate. Many people were helpful & generous in this process & it became obvious that most of them had a great affection for Franz even though he was often a very difficult & problematic person in their lives. I truly put a great deal of love into making this & I think that, despite the 'no-budget' circumstances of this making, a fair & even somewhat thorough image of Franz can be gotten from it. I regret not also making a movie about James Brody, who was a remarkable person. Alas, I had very few materials to work with regarding him. - June 30, 2019E.V. notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
