Hundreds of thousands of Hong Kongers from all ages and walks of life marched on Sunday against a legislative bill that would allow people to be extradited to mainland China to face charges, in the largest demonstration city has seen in years. Time-lapse footage filmed from a high-rise building showed the impressive turnout as the crowds marched through Causeway Bay and Wanchai shopping and residential districts to Hong Kong's parliament, where debates are set to start on Wednesday, June 12 for the government's amendments to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance.
Estimates of the size of the protest crowds vary between a few hundred thousand and a million.
The protest descended into violence in the early hours of Monday, June 10 as several hundred protesters clashed with a similar number of police outside the city's parliament.
