Venezuela coup LIVE: Guaido calls for military uprising GUNFIRE was heard on the streets of Venezuela today after Juan Guaido today called for a military uprising in a video call to arms against Nicolas Maduro's government.

The opposition leader - who is backed by the US - was earlier seen surrounded by dozens of troops outside an air force base in the capital Caracas.

In a dawn address Guaido he declared the "beginning the final phase of Operation Freedom" had begun.

He was pictured near the air force flanked by a group of men in uniform - many wearing blue ribbons on their sleeves.

Government security forces reportedly fired tear gas at Guaido, his supporters and around 70 armed men in military uniform.
