Self-destruction: Palestinians forced to demolish their own homes

For the past three years almost 150 Palestinian houses were demolished in East Jerusalem. Apparently, destroying one’s home is a better option than having to pay fines for building without a permit which measure in thousands of dollars to the Israeli authorities. However, most locals have no choice but to build their homes without permits due to the artificially created construction crisis for the city’s Palestinian population, while the housing sectors in neighboring Jewish communities receive massive development and substantial state funding.
